I’m getting confused about where exactly the boat station is for Phong Nha Cave tours. I’ve seen different locations mentioned online and want to make sure I end up in the right place. Is it walking distance from the main town center or do I need to arrange transport to get there? I’m staying at a guesthouse near the river and hoping it’s not too far to walk with my day pack and camera gear. Also wondering about boat departure times and whether I need to book in advance or can just show up. My travel style is pretty flexible but don’t want to waste time wandering around looking for the right departure point. Has the location changed recently or are there multiple boat stations for different cave tours? Any recent visitors who can confirm the exact location would be really helpful.
Yes it is walkable from the main Phong Nha town center if you are staying riverside, but expect a 5 to 20 minute walk depending on exactly where your guesthouse is. I am guessing its near river side since most tourist stays either there or backpacker hostel.

Some tours and operators use slightly different piers or meet at the Phong Nha Tourism Center, so double check your operator’s pickup point rather than assuming every tour uses the exact same dock.
I have seen boats starting early around 08:00 and the last runs are usually mid afternoon (around 3-4 pm if I remember correct) so plan to get there in the morning. I would go in morning anyways because I just hate crowds lol
You can buy tickets at the boat station on the day or you can book or ask your guesthouse to reserve it for you if you expect big crowd. i do think they will charge you extra for this. I just bought it at boat station which I feel is the best if you go early morning.
