Looking for current information about bus services from Hoi An to Phong Nha. I’ve found some online booking sites but want to confirm with recent travelers about reliability and comfort levels. Are there direct buses or do I need to connect somewhere? My preference is for daytime travel rather than overnight buses if possible. I’m staying in Hoi An old town and wondering where buses typically depart from and whether pickup services are available. Also curious about luggage policies since I have a large backpack plus some photography equipment. The journey time seems to vary a lot depending on which website I check, so would love to hear from someone who has actually done this route recently about realistic travel times and any tips for a smooth journey.
You can get daytime buses from Hoi An to Phong Nha but they are less common than the overnight sleepers so expect to do a little hunting if you want to travel in daylight… plenty of daytime options though so it is doable i guess
plan on roughly eight to twelve hours depending on the bus which is actually longer when you compare with what is shown on goolge maps when traffic or toilet breaks get involved. i would bring offline podcasts or download offline music on spotify for the same reason lol
By the way hoi an old town is a pedestrian area so buses normally meet just outside the pedestrian zone or the coach will pick you up from a nearby meeting point or your guesthouse if you arrange it. Big backpacks go in the hold under the bus. Treat your camera like it is emotionally fragile and keep it with you on board. VIP and limousine style operators have cabin space and overhead room so consider those if you have pricey kit. Label everything and keep chargers and memory cards in your day bag.
Also pick a well reviewed operator rather than the cheapest sketchy van. Reviews are mixed so choose someone with lots of recent positive feedback if punctuality matters. read a few recent reviews before committing as some I read had aggressive overspeeding drivers (look for reviewers with more than 20 reviews total as i saw lots of scam reviews with new accounts on google).
